India vs New Zealand: Here’s what Ishan Kishan said before the match

Very happy with the way we played last game, it was the first game after the World Cup, and looking at the mindset of each and every player, it was very good to see. Everyone going in with a positive intent, everyone giving it their best and it was a lovely game for us. The conditions over here always have been like this, have played a lot of games in New Zealand for India A. We don’t think about the rain so much, we know how to switch on when the game happens and we as professional players know how to switch off and switch on. Let’s see if the match happens and we will give our best. We are not looking at the dimensions so much, but we know New Zealand bowlers love to bowl short balls, the process stays the same. We will just look to watch the ball and play our natural game irrespective of their plans. There are so many bowlers who are too good at executing themselves in our side. I still badly wanted to be at the non-striker’s end (when Surya is batting), he makes batting look so easy. All of us want to bat like him. He is so calm every time, I think everything is going according to plan for him. Off the field, in the last few years I played with him, he is very professional with his hydration and sleeping pattern and diet. We, youngsters, can learn a lot from him and how he is batting and his energy and work ethic always hundred percent.

  • 12:07 (IST)

India vs New Zealand: Here’s what Hardik Pandya said at the toss

We wanted to bowl first anyway, so we got what we wanted. I think the pitch will remain the same for the entire 40 overs, but with the grass on it, there could be some lateral movement for our pacers. We do keep the dimensions in mind, but we do the skill-set in our bowling line-up. We can’t think too much about the conditions – One change, Harshal comes in place of Washington Sundar

  • 12:06 (IST)

India vs New Zealand: Here’s what Tim Southee said at the toss

We will bat. Looks like a pitch where we can put the runs on the board. We can’t really control the weather, but the history of this ground suggests good batting conditions. Our bowling the other night wasn’t the best, but credit to Sky. Mark Chapman comes in straightaway. You look back at places where we can improve as a team

India vs New Zealand: Here’s what Adam Milne said before toss

I am not sure (about the weather) after the last couple of games, hopefully it passes through and we have a full game. Not particularly (like the start-stop game), every bowler likes to have a run-in of games and get the rhythm and flow. Feel of the game, feel of the batsmen and whether they’re getting used to your pace and you might need to change it a little bit (when to use variations). He (SKY) is a very difficult batter to bowl to, he can hit 360 and is much like AB, we need to keep him guessing and throw him off with variations. I sort of saw him when I was at Mumbai Indians, he was a great then and now has gone to a new level, his confidence is up and some of the shots were ridiculous. You have to look at the dimensions of the ground and they dictate the way you bowl. Kane is a huge player, one of our best batters but (his absence) gives other players an opportunity.

India vs New Zealand: Here’s what Deepak Hooda said before toss

I am a batting all-rounder, so scoring runs is very important, but I’m working on my bowling as well and want to chip in whenever the team needs me. I have been playing as an all-rounder since my debut, I have worked hard on my bowling over the last 3 months, even when I’m not featuring in the team. I would like to bat at 5, we have a legend playing at 3 and I have to be realistic, I can’t get that spot (smiles). It’s a problem at times to adapt to batting at 5 or 6, but I have done that role as I am an utility player and need to play according to the situation of the game.
